Introducing TAS
TAS is the AtkinsRéalis Timetable Advisory System application and supporting shore based reporting utility.
It is designed to operate on an Apple iPad within a train cab. TAS is a form of ‘Driver Advisory System’ but at a lower order of complexity and with more emphasis placed on the expertise and knowledge of the train driver.
The Solution
TAS provides the train driver with information on how the train they are driving is progressing relative to timetable.
If the train is ahead of schedule, then the driver can slow down the train to save energy. Running a train just to timetable can save between 2% and 8% based on modelled scenarios. If the train is behind of schedule then the train can be sped up to the line speed and minimise delay minutes.
Simple, Portable Installation
The use of a tablet device provides for a simple cab installation as no separate antennas are required for GPS and comms traffic.
The approach being proposed to prospective clients is to purchase the preferred tablet device for the driver and not installed on the train thus giving greater ownership, responsibility and respect to the driver.
